Students at a Pennsylvania school are stomping mad, after Ugg boots have been banned. No longer can Pottsdam Middle Schoolers sport the furry lined boots this winter after teachers caught one too many students hiding cell phones in them.
They would then whip out their cell phones during class to text and post messages on Facebook.
Parents aren't happy with the decision either, in fact they've been posting on Facebook:
"Totally ridiculous."
Other parents were annoyed that only girls seemed to be targeted.
"Pockets, bras, socks, what's next?" another parent wrote.
"I think this is absurd!"
Other parents said banning the boots aren't the problem. "Just take them (cell phones) when they have them in class, give them a detention and be done with it," posted Jeni Alexander.
Students can still wear their winter boots to school but they must change out of them into sneakers or another pair of shoes that lace at the ankle and cannot conceal a cell phone before classes begin.
What do you think about the ban?
Viewers serve up their thoughts:
N_Keanaaina tweets: @maggiesworld I don't think it will. They'll eventually convert to hiding them in their bra's and what not. Are they gonna ban those too?
Kaley writes on Facebook: Wow. What a joke.
Eva writes: ok, thats just stupid..... geesh
Myron writes: I'm glad they are banning them. I'm so tired of seeing them.
Jason writes: So are they going to ban bras as well? That is a well known spot to hide a phone.
George writes: The principle is a moron there. The boots aren't in the school policies or anything. The number of ways I can think of to get a cell phone in a school or class room even without a hat or coat is massive. What next TSA pat downs before kids. Seriously, what about if the the kid puts it inside their pats under the belt. it wouldn't be hard to make a cloth holster that can hold on there they do it for guns. Maybe they want to send the kids to school naked or as I said above have TSA pat them down before hand.
Britney writes: Honestly, I don't see the big deal. When I was in middle school, they banned slap bracelets, pogs, and balloons filled with koolaid powder. A school has the right to, and should, ban anything that is hindering the teacher's ability to tea...ch their classes. I'm surprised more parents aren't trying to help the problem by not allowing their Pre-teens to bring their cell phones to school in the first place. For a young teen, owning a cell phone is a privilege, and my child(ren) will have to follow the rules if they want that privilege.
